DUPR
Everything you need to know about your Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating (DUPR) and how it’s used at Nanaimo Pickleball Club.
Quick Facts
- DUPR is the official rating system used by the Club.
- It’s free to create an account.
- Everyone starts with a rating, even if they’re new.
- Your rating becomes more accurate as you play more matches.
What is DUPR?
Why is NPC using DUPR?
In 2026 Canada Pickleball Organization (PCO) have stated they intend to use DUPR as their main player rating system.
Nanaimo Pickleball Club has adopted the DUPR system along with its existing Club Rating inCourt Reserve as internal club rating systems.
At this time NPC will use Club Rating system for Recreational play and DUPR rating system in DUPR play in order to help club members to improve club ratings by regularly hosting DUPR play sessions. The aim is to allow all members to enjoy playing pickleball with partners and other players who have similar skills and experience. Registering with DUPR and recording game scores on a periodic basis will allow members to have a fair and reasonably accurate skill level rating.
Will all club play sessions be DUPR sessions?
Do I need to join DUPR?
- Yes if you are a 2.5 club self-accessed/club rated player.
- Yes if you are new to the club.
- Yes if you want to increase your club rating.
- Yes from what we understand Canada Pickleball Organization (PCO) will mandate that all players registering with PCO will be required to have a DUPR account.
- Yes, if you want to use a DUPR rating as a basis for a new or higher club rating.
- Yes, if you want to play in any NPC DUPR play sessions, perhaps to just find out what your DUPR rating would be, or just because DUPR play sessions have good competitive play.
What do I need to do BEFORE signing up for an NPC DUPR rating session or DUPR play session?
- Set up a DUPR account
- Link your DUPR account to the NPC DUPR Club.
Answers to the next two questions will be covered in the next question.
How do I set up a DUPR account?
- NOTE: DUPR is free software for the users and you DO NOT have to enter any credit card information when creating your account or entering scores.
- Go to DUPR.com, then press Signup; or, from the same DUPR webpage, download the DUPR app to your device, open the app, and press Signup.
- At the “Claim Your Account” screen, enter your name and see if you already have a DUPR account; claim it if you do.
- If you don’t have a DUPR account, press Create an Account and fill in the player details.
- Be sure to use the same first and last name and email address as your NPC membership.
- Verify your email address by following the instructions in the email sent to you by DUPR.
NOTE: When you create a new Account you may have a NR for a rating, unless you have been in a tournament where scores were inputted to the DUPR system. If you see a NR this means you have not played any games and have “No Rating “until you start playing / recording games in DUPR.
How do I join NPC on DUPR?
- Log in to your DUPR account and press the “Play” menu item.
- On the Play page, ensure that the button “Clubs” is highlighted, not “Events”.
- Select Clubs Near Me or Enter “Nanaimo Pickleball Club” in the search box.
- Select the Nanaimo Pickleball Club
- On the Nanaimo Pickleball Club page, press the “Join Club” button.
Is there a cost to join DUPR or NPC on DUPR?
No, both are free. Of course, you must already have an NPC membership via this website before an administrator will admit you to NPC on DUPR.
Is one club DUPR rating session sufficient to get a DUPR rating and have it recognized by the club?
No. You will likely get an initial DUPR rating within a day of playing in your first session, but NPC will not accept a DUPR rating as a club rating until your DUPR Reliability is at least 60%.
What is DUPR Reliability?

- modifying your club rating.
- the player would make a Rating Change Request in writing to NPC.
- play in DUPR games organized by NPC or another venue or club, as such club entered games will raise your DUPR reliability much faster than Recreational player-entered games,
- enter more games into DUPR — recency of games also counts;
- play with a variety of players of similar skill level and
- play with others who already have a high DUPR Reliability.
Can I keep my current club rating?
Yes. NPC will not lower club ratings unless you specifically ask for a lower rating. This applies even if you have a lower DUPR rating than your current club level, because we are grandfathering (extending) previous club ratings in recognition of the skill level already achieved and used to earn that previous club rating.
Can I record game scores in DUPR myself, based on non-club play?
Can any CLUB PLAY game scores be entered into DUPR?
Yes. Club play sessions CAN be entered into DUPR if it is not a DUPR session as long as it is agreed by all players before the match to enter the scores in DUPR. DUPR games tend to be competitive, like a tournament game, and some members do not want this for regular play.
What are Types of DUPR Competitions?
Different types of matches count more towards your rating. For example, recreational matches have less of an impact on your rating, while DUPR club matches and director uploaded tournaments have more of an impact.
When is your DUPR rating updated?
How does the Doubles rating work?
DUPR uses individual player ratings to calculate a team rating—the average of each player’s DUPR. These team ratings are then used to determine the expected score of the match.
If your team scores more points than expected, your rating goes up. If your team scores fewer points than expected, your rating goes down.
Each player’s rating adjustment depends on the number of matches they’ve played and how recent those matches are.
Play regularly to keep your rating dynamic and reflective of your current skill!
So while a win may earn you a trophy, a better seed, or advancement in a tournament, it doesn’t always mean your rating should go up. If you scored fewer points than expected, that’s a signal you underperformed relative to your current rating, and we adjust accordingly. The reverse is also true: if you lose but over perform, your rating can rise.
Newer matches have a bigger impact on your rating than older ones.
What happened to my Pickleball Brackets rating?
Pickleball Brackets website became Pickleball.com. When it did this it removed the ability for clubs to track individuals Bracket rating. Unfortunately they left all users around the world with no way to retrieve or continue with the rating system they used. They have changed to more of a Tournament company and now also use DUPR full time for all of their tournament ranking.
Club Ratings
Our Club Rating system helps match players of similar skill levels for enjoyable and competitive play. Learn how ratings are assigned, how to move up through skill assessments, tournament results, or DUPR, and how the system supports fair play for all members.
Skill Assessments
The Club has partnered with Lee MacDonald, an IFPTA Certified Level 1 Coach to provide a Skill Based Assessment of a players’ skill level for 2.0-3.0 level players. Lee has provided pickleball training at three progressive levels over the past seven years for more than 3700 hours and therefore is well qualified to provide an assessment of a players skill level at this level. The Club will accept Lee’s assessment of a players skill level and will move players to more competitive courts based on Lee’s recommendation. There is a fee for this service assessment and is for NPC Use Only. Complete details can be found HERE.
